The right vacuum is an investment in your home, and like any investment, you want it to last. We want to help you make sure that your vacuum goes the distance. Here are some of our favorite tips for keeping your vacuum in tip-top shape.
Be strategic
Don’t waste time vacuuming areas that aren’t dirty. Focus on the heavily trafficked areas. This will shorten the time you spend vacuuming and extend the life of your vacuum. You can also take off your shoes at the door, eat food at the table or brush your pets outside to help avoid messes that require vacuuming.
Change bags and filters
You don’t want to wait until the bag or container is full. Plan to empty the canister or change the bag when it is three-quarters full. When the air can’t travel through a bag or a filter, it causes the engine of your vacuum to work harder and burn out faster. Keep a supply of bags and filters on hand so that you can change them regularly.
Clean out the rollers regularly
Vacuums with a rotating brush are frequently slowed down by tangled hair, pet fur, or string. Make sure you take the time to regularly clean the rollers so that your vacuum can function efficiently.
Avoid hard or large objects and water
Don’t vacuum repeatedly over hard objects until they get picked up because they can damage the inside of your machine. You should also avoid water or any kind of moisture. The moment you realize you vacuumed something you shouldn’t have, you need to turn off and unplug the machine. Instead of hoping that clogs will clear on their own, take the time to find and clear them.
Using attachments correctly
Attachments are there to help you vacuum difficult areas. Instead of lugging the vacuum up the stairs and possibly damaging it, use the attachments to get to those difficult areas and spare your vacuum. You will also want to store those attachments correctly so that you can easily find them.
Doing these five things can help your vacuum go the distance and make sure you get the most out of your investment. When you realize that it’s time for a new vacuum, remember that Buckhead Vacuum is here to help.
